July 2011: Betty is 5 years old and wants to be a doctor when she grows up. She lives with both parents, but neither have steady jobs. Her mother sometimes sells someone's tap water, and for this she can make around 500 shillings a day. Betty has been out of school for a few days, and her mother visited the office to report that she is sick with malaria. This is very common in the area where the students live.
